Naomi Osaka withdraws from Wimbledon due to Achilles injury

Naomi Osaka will not compete at Wimbledon later this month, to an Achilles injury.

Having posted a video on Twitter of herself rehabbing her Achilles on an underwater treadmill last week.

Osaka and her team indicated that the withdrawal was due to tendinitis in her left Achilles tendon and that she would have played if healthy.

Osaka withdrew from the Italian Open with an ankle injury in May.

A two-time winner of both the Australian and US Open, Osaka's best runs at Wimbledon were two third-round defeats in 2017 and 2018.

The decision came a few months after Osaka had withdrawn from the French Open after declining to speak to the media.

In a Twitter post-Saturday, Osaka confirmed the ongoing issue with her Achilles and wrote a message.

Osaka, now ranked 43 in the world, made it to the third round in Wimbledon twice, in 2017 and 2018, with her last appearance at the tournament in 2019.
