The Mangrove ecosystems of Kerala, its mapping inventory and some environmental aspects

Mangroves are tropical tidal wetlands rich in productivity and biodiversity. Being a coastal state, Kerala was very rich in mangroves, which have been reduced to isolate, and discrete patches today. The study highlighted the significance of this ecosystem and recommends for conservation and sustainable utilization of this coastal resource. The study report recommends taking up massive afforestation programs in the state.

The Sacred groves of Kerala with particular reference to rare and endangered plants of the Western Ghats, Kerala

A Sacred grove is a forest patch preserved on religious grounds. They are the last asylum of several lowland species of biota, which are otherwise on the verge of extinction or threat. The study reveals that this traditional nature and biodiversity conservation practices of the people of the state are on the decline due to various reasons including loss of traditional values and high developmental pressures. The study recommends about 250 groves for immediate conservation
