Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan

Iintegrated Coastal Zone Management Plan (ICZMP) is a holistic approach that provides a blue print for coordinated micro-level planning and development of different sectors like housing, transportation, health, sanitation, drinking water, employment generation and small scale industries. The unique feature of the approach is that it fits ideally into the ongoing decentralised planning process in the country.The vulnerable nature of the coastal ecosystems, high density of population and the stress on resources were the prime driving forces behind developing an ICZM Comprehensive assessment of the scenario has shown that an approach based on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) giving due consideration to differentstakeholders only can ensure sustainable development.
